ZipSnip All Purpose Cordless Cutter

Say goodbye to your scissors!

The folks at ZipSnip recently sent me a ZipSnip Lithium cutter to review and is also offering one to one of my readers. Give away offered later this week.

The
ZipSnip is a 3.6V Lithium-ion cordless cutter that can cut through all types of materials.

First Impression:

The ZipSnip felt comfortable in my hand, it’s light, weighing on ly one pound. The top mounted safety / power switch and lower trigger offer safety protection and are easily reached by using your thumb and forefinger and a cinch to use.

After charging the ZipSnip for 5 hours I tested it out in my shop and around the house.

I tested the ZipSnip on aluminum and nylon window screen, old t-shirts, leather, plastic packaging, corrugated board, rubber roofing, 14 ga. wire, a magazine and bamboo screening. [see video below]

The tool cut everything easily leaving a clean cut line. It also cut curves well.
One neat thing that I noticed is that you can cut up close to an obstruction or corner where ordinary scissor can not.

ZipSnip Specifications:

  • Cutter is 1½-in.-diameter, hardened steel blade is self-sharpening and replaceable.
  • A built-in cutting guide ensures precise straight or curved cuts.
  • The blade operates at 260 rpm (no load). Its maximum cutting thickness is ¼ in.
  • 3.6-volt, cordless cutter is powered by a 1.4 Ah LithiumTechTM battery. An indicator light on the back of the handle shows when the battery is fully charged. Lithium technology enables the cutter to hold a charge for up to 24 months.
  • 3-5 hour charger is included.

Overall Impression:

I was impressed with the Zip Snip cutter, it works exactly as advertised. Having the cordless tool is a nice touch as is the fact that the batteries are Lithium -ion.

My only comment to the company would be to make this tools safety switch a bit more challenging to operate. I could see a youngster operating this tool without much fuss. Although my kids are older, I tested this theory with both my 10 and 12 year old. Both kids picked the Zip Snip up and operated it with out instruction.

Where To Buy:

ZipSnip 3.6V Lithium-ion Self-Sharpening Cordless Cutter (#RC2602, $39.99) is available at Menards, and regional hardware and home centers, and online at www.zipsnipcutter.com.
